Product Information Management

Product Information Management (PIM)

Produkt Informations Management (PIM) Bildschirm
Completely uncoupled thanks to PIM
By means of Product Information Management (PIM module), you administer all the information for a product that you may wish to use now or later for its marketing. The product information is saved in PIM, completely uncoupled from a sales channel, and it can be strengthened in a sales channel specific way – once it has been collected, it can be used without restriction in the most varied channels, from a print catalogue to an online newsletter, and in multiple languages.

Manual collection of the data in PIM is not usually necessary, because the software supports imports from any number of external systems. If required, updates are applied to all linked datasets, with the result that your product information in all sales channels is always consistent and completely up-to-date.

The benefits for you with Product Information Management (PIM) in the eggheads Suite:
  • Intuitive data maintenance and administration

  • Support for multiple languages

  • Permissions management

  • Simple product comparison

  • Workflow-based tasks

  • Translation processes

  • Integration of Microsoft products (e.g. Excel)

  • Data Quality Management (DQM)

PIM base module

PIM data model
An air compressor is not the same as a holiday trip. The previous statement is completely self-evident, and it is also just as obvious that the eggheads Suite has a fully configurable data model. In this way, every company can map its individual structures and product data. In the PIM base module, all different types of objects (so-called “structure node types”) can be defined using the data model, differentiated, related to each other, grouped into ranges, and in linked into different product groups.

PIM administration
The Administration option included in the PIM base module is used to define features, hierarchies, work environments, and all overarching definitions such as image formats, workflows, etc. The settings made here are saved in the database, and then apply to all users. In contrast to this, Permissions Management – also included in the PIM base module – can be used to set rights not just for individual users and user roles, but also for hierarchy levels and features, down to an individual attribute.

PIM languages
The representation of multiple languages is a component of the PIM base module. In this way, different languages can be inserted next to each other in the structure node editor. This results in easier translation control and a simpler translation process which is organised by means of workflows and tasks. The different languages can be selected in Administration using the ISO code. For a language like German, it is possible to maintain different variants for the various countries in which German is spoken, such as Germany, Austria, and Switzerland.

PIM Pivot Tables module

Keep an overview of your complex product information. The PIM Pivot Tables module provides the option to generate pivot tables within the master data in order to compress the data. This required in particular for a large number of products which have the same properties. The module contains an editor, which assembles the pivot tables as desired, in a simple manner, and displays them in a preview. Any necessary changes can be carried out on the spot. This keeps the pivot tables up to date at all times.

PIM Versioning module

By means of PIM versioning, feature contents can be saved in different versions. This makes possible a historical view of feature contents. This fixes data statuses, and these are traceable at a later point in time. In addition, there is the option to compare different versions with each other, in order to recreate previous versions if necessary.

PIM Classification module

Using the PIM Classification module, product data can be classified according to applicable standards. Regardless whether you want to deliver your customers the product data as BMECat, ETIM, eCl@ss, UNSPSC, for example or also as another classification, the eggheads Suite enables the flexible mapping of product information to the relevant classification. There is therefore no need for your employees to put on their “classification glasses" for assessment and maintenance. The data export does this of its own accord, on the basis of the mapping. And here, the classified files can be provided in any CSV or XML file imaginable. Simple and flexible classification - thanks to the eggheads Suite.

PIM module for dynamic texts (vText)

Optimise your text editing, and deliver your target groups and channels with differentiated and relevant content. For this, our customers use the vText function. vText optimises the editing of dynamic texts, and allows the editors to decide which content is available, with which priority, in the relevant channel. Using vText, complete texts are subdivided into individual text segments, to which a corresponding priority is assigned according to the channel. Then, on the basis of these priorities, it can be decided which of these text segments can be displayed or omitted, as required. In this way, you obtain relevant and targeted content.

vText can either be prepared and prioritised manually, or else it can also be filled completely from the FACTS supplier portal of the eggheads Suite. The prioritisation is then set by FACTS during text generation, according to the available set of rules. The template mechanism of the eggheads Suite is able to assess the prioritisation in such a way that if the texts overflow, they are automatically shortened stepwise, according to their priority. Through the rule-based use of the vText features in templates, at the timepoint of generating the layout it is then decided which text building blocks can be presented, depending on the space available. In this way, implicitly and without product managers needing to intervene, the texts are prepared optimally.

Application options
In an online shop, it is often not necessary to perform text abbreviations, because the website provides sufficient space even for longer texts. However, for catalogue design, placement and the text lengths are extremely important. With the aid of vText, laborious text abbreviations and adaptations can be avoided. The defined purpose and the prioritisation control the display of the text segments. For this, the relevant purposes can be freely defined and assigned to the text. The classification is carried out according to the form and content of the texts, e.g. into Web and catalogue, or also specific to target group, into modern and classical. Entire catalogues are now generated on the basis of vText, and this reduces the effort for editorial editing enormously.
